Angelheaded Towers

xD SPACE presents Angelheaded Towers, an evening of visual investigation and conversation about our neural, networked horizons with networked artist @rrrrrruuuuuubbbbbbzzzzzz followed by nocturnal audiovisual exploration with the oracular consciousness vessel @m4x1us.

Angelheaded Towers is an in-progress film in 6 parts by Ruba Al-Sweel, designed with and for Instagram’s visual and algorithmic language. Sitting in the tripartite plot of critical theory, networked technologies and generative AI, it draws on platform physics and its visual language in addition to the lone “user” caught in an ouroboric relationship with the media they both consume and produce. The film follows Earthrise, a speck of moondust falling from outer space who slowly loses its transcendent, all-encompassing angelic vision and starts dealing with the indignities and formative traumas of fragmented, immanent human vision. They spend their time trying to access history here on Earth to understand how they got here and how they might rise up again. A benevolent talking head from the vlogosphere might have answers as Earthrise gradually relies on them for strategies to survive. Central to the plot, the vlogger emerges as a critical figure, the ultimate observable and observing subject, the one that repeatedly asks the Fermi question as guiding motive: "Where is everybody?" She faintly hopes that the lack of apparent response actually translates—through reach and engagement analytics—into interaction with life, any life, far beyond the constraints of the algorithms. The film's episodic release concludes in October 2026. This space features the first two installments and premieres the upcoming third installment.
